  • Saturday 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM

MATERIALS ACCEPTED AT THE CENTER

MIXED CONTAINERS: CONTAINS ALL CATEGORIES BELOW
PLASTICS:
  • Rinse all food containers
  • Recycle plastic bottles, tubs, jugs, jars, and their plastic lids.
  • No FILM or FOAM in regular recycling bins. This includes any Styrofoam, plastic bags, and wrapping material. See Film Plastics below to see what can be recycled
  • No plastic plates or utensils
  • No flower pots or trays
  • No buckets 5 gallons or larger
  • No plastic that contained motor oil, antifreeze, or other automotive fluids

ALUMINUM, STEEL AND TIN FOOD OR BEVERAGE CONTAINERS:
  • Rinse all food containers
  • Labels do not need to be removed
  • Cans do not need to be flattened
  • Do not include any scrap metal or non-food cans like paint or solvent containers

GLASS BOTTLES & JARS (unbroken):
  • All colors of glass are accepted for recycling
  • Rinse all food containers
  • Lids can be recycled but should be removed from the containers
  • Labels do not need to be removed
  • Do not include any window glass, canning jars, ceramics, cookware, dishes or drinking glasses

PAPER:
  • Press or pasteboard boxes and packaging (cereal, cracker and shoe boxes, packing and clothing inserts, notepad backing, etc.)
  • Paper of any color
  • Food and beverage cartons (milk, milk alternatives, juice, soup, broth); discard plastic lids in the trash)
  • Sheets of paper of any color
  • Copy machine and uncoated fax machine paper
  • Envelopes with or without windows and self-adhesive
  • Tablets, legal pads and notebook paper
  • Junk mail
  • Glossy pamphlets and brochures
  • Manila folders and envelopes
  • Newsletters
  • Newspaper
  • Shredded paper (place in a paper bag and staple it shut)
  • Carbonless paper
  • Paper ream wrappers
  • Paper bags
  • Phone books
  • Newspapers
  • Magazines
  • Catalogs
  • Paperback and hardcover books (remove binding)
CORRUGATED CARDBOARD
CORRUGATED CARDBOARD:
  • Look for the ripple inside. Corrugated cardboard consists of two outer flat sheets of heavy paper and an inner filling of "rippled"" corrugated paper that provides support for the box or package
  • Cardboard with wax coating is not recyclable and should be put in the trash
  • No cardboard covered with paint, grease or other contaminants
If you have a large amount of corrugated cardboard, please bring it to the WLSSD Materials Recovery Center at 4587 Ridgeview Road.
FILM PLASTICS

FILM PLASTICS (All must be clean and dry)

  • Grocery bags
  • Newspaper bags
  • Bread bags
  • Dry cleaning bags
  • Stretch/shrink wrap
  • Plastic wrap from paper products (paper towels, etc.)
  • Bubble wrap
  • Salt bags with rigid plastic handles removed
  • Retail bags with string ties or rigid handles removed
  • Zipper-type food storage bags

    • For items not listed, recyclable film plastics pass these tests:

  • Stretches with the poke of a finger
  • Doesn't rip or tear when stretched
  • Doesn't sound "crinkly"

    • Not Accepted:

  • Soil or mulch bags, black plastic bags, plastic food containers or plastic bottles, salad bags, meat wrap, 6-pack rings, PPE (gloves, masks), pool covers, boat wrap, agricultural wrap, lamination film, chip bags, candy wrappers, mesh or net bags, woven pet food & feed bags.
